This dream of having a kitchen island started with a dresser we found at a local resale shop. It was a bit taller than your standard dresser and made the perfect height for an island, and thus, the dresser to island conversion project was born. If you’re looking to start a upcyled project that will look amazing in your home, this would be an amazing place to start. It’t the perfect blend of rustic and beautiful. Don’t take my word for it, see for yourself. Where to Start If you’re lookiung for the perfect piece of furniture to flip upcycled into a…

Sooo, as most of you may already know we have been steadily working on converting an old dresser into a kitchen island. My number one goal out of this entire conversion process has been working toward capturing an old, just pulled out of a barn feel. I don’t know if that makes any sense to you but that is literally the phrase I have been using to describe my vision. Rusty hardware (that I also DIY’d HERE) , chippy paint…you name it. This has presented itself to be quite the challenge but I was eager to get this part of…

This idea blossomed when we decided to update our dark and dreary kitchen to an authentic farmhouse kitchen, which you can rad about HERE. I had always wanted a vent hood cover and since this is our forever home, I decided it was time to take the plunge.…except for one small problem. We had an overhead microwave mounted above the stove. There was no vent pipe redirecting the air, only the microwave and a small set of vents on the top. I refused to let my dream of having a beautiful vent hood cover fade. My husband and I chewed over…

If you would have told me a year ago that I would be sharing images of my newly updated dream kitchen I would have lol’d…BIG TIME! We were no where near buying our forever home, in fact, we were renting and banking on buying that place! But God…GOD had different plans for our family. I din’t know exactly what they were at that point but I just had this feeling that we needed to wait. The ironic part is I am a very VERY impatient person. When I get something in my head, I want to jump to it right them…

I love making my own beautiful decor. This lantern is one of those projects that is so simple and looks like it came right from the store. I assembled using the PRECUT PROJECT KIT from R+R Supply that can be purchased HERE but it could be easily assembled using some simple wood cuts. I have included a list below. SUPPLIES (1) 6x6 in wood blocks (2) 8x8in wood blocks (4) 12x2 in wood blocks Nail gun (or Wood glue) Hardware or a knob of some sort Begin by attaching the four 12x2 board to the four corners of the 8x8 board. Okay, y’all. Let me just start by saying, I am not a professional painter. This is my second time taking on this type of project but my first time documenting the process. I completely understand how overwhelming it can become with the crazy amount of cabinet painting tutorials that are out there. That is why I have tried my very best to break it down in the clearest way possible. We recently moved into our forever home and even though I fell in love with the house, I did not love the cabinets. And let me tell ya, if there…

This is one of those projects that I didn’t totally come together until the very end. At first, the plain ole wood blocks do not look that impressive. I encourage you to stick this one out until the end. I think you will be presently surprised. I started with these cute little pre-cut wood blocks I have available in R+R SUPPLY. They are made of pine, and can easily be stained or sanded. A stamp set, paint, sandpaper and some string are all you need to complete these little gems! Start by painting your blocks and allow them to dry. Nothing…

I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve sifted through this box of old handwritten recipes over the years… each time I learn something new about my heritage… the woman that left a legacy. My great grandmother passed when I was an infant and I have since lost my Grannie. Oh the stories my Grannie used to share. There is not much I wouldn’t give to hear those stories just one more time, just so I could soak them in just a little bit longer. She’s been on my mind a lot lately, September 23rd marked 11 years without her…

I am a sucker for a nice heavily distressed paint job. It is a great way to give new pieces of furniture a beautiful look of old age and history. It is no secret that it has become a very popular go-to look for refinishing those outdated pieces you snagged at a yardsale or just simply want to create an updated look in your home. In this tutorial I share some of my personal tips for when you are looking to start your next project. PREP To start off, I recommend having a dark base. Specifically for the look I am…

I have been seeing these adorable little DIY wood block houses everywhere! They usually have a number on them or a cute little saying and I have simply fell in love! I decided it was time for me to hop on the saw and come up with a cute and simple design. I started with a scrapwood block and cut the edges at a 45 degree angle to make a pitched roof. It was about 9 inches tall without the addition of the trim pieces which we will get to later. MAKE YOUR CUTS (1) 2X6X8” block (or scrap wood with a pitch) (1)…
